For the home: Cluster Chandelier

Often people underestimate the power of lighting. Lighting doesn't just create the perfect mood or ambiance (tranquility, serenity, romanticism or harmony) in a room but more often than not becomes more of a focal point by itself. Take for instance the chandeliers we choose for our dining rooms where they usually hang more at eye level. It would be a very noticeable mistake, if not costly, to choose the wrong one. The cluster chandeliers I've seen lately in design magazines may just be what the doctor ordered offering simplicity and sculptural element at the same time. Their hanging globes (sometimes in different size) are together and connected by either wires or a metal structure. They also may come with facing down shades. Either style you choose these are destined to be a classic. Enjoy!

Restyled Vintage Lamps

I love discovering creative folks who transform dated pieces into gems. Lia Fagan started following me on Twitter and before you knew it, we were exchanging emails with plans to meet at her studio. Lia is a designer who transforms vintage lamps into one of a kind pieces. She updates the wiring, paints the base and either salvages or creates a new shade, usually in a graphic pattern.

Aren’t they unique, colourful and charming? You can see all of her lamps for sale here.

In addition to transforming lamps, Lia also makes lamp shades. She will be creating one for my daughter’s lamp (below). I have chosen some fabric and will meet up with her next week. I’m also thinking of painting the base in a colour to work with the fabric.

Beehive Pendants

Lighting can transform a space. Not just the illumination which designer Allegra Hicks recently stated in an interview “ is key to feeling well in a room” but the fixture itself.

Take the “beehive” pendant for instance. It’s lightness and whimsy makes a statement in any space whether a hallway, bedroom or bathroom. It’s particularly difficult to find pretty yet simple fixtures for hallways where you may need two or three. There are all kinds of, what we in the design biz call by it’s technical term, “boob” lighting – you know the ones I mean, right? Not very attractive.

I love both the clear glass and white glass pendants which come in different sizes. Aren’t they just the cutest things?

New Lighting at Pottery Barn

Here’s a sneak peek at Pottery Barn’s new lighting collections available this Fall.

The square top on the tripod base spins to adjust the height of the lamp.

The weatherproof iron mimics the look of copper on this outdoor fixture.

These task table lamps have such charm and vintage appeal. There are floor versions as well.

Love the beaded detail on this bronze double sconce.

Love the fresh colour and the height (28.5”) of these ceramic table lamps.

This oversized burlap pendant would be perfect in a dining room with a rustic feel.

This would look great in a dining room, living room or bedroom. The bronze finish keeps it from looking too girly glam.

Bell Jar Pendants

I recently posted this dining room photo from House Beautiful and thought I would post it again for this post. I have always loved bell jar pendants for their simplicity, lightness and versatility. They are equally at home in a dining room, kitchen, entry way or hallway.
