Green and Brass

Now that my love for brass, which I'm professing for over two years now, has spread around I'm more certain that real love is the only way to save the world, I mean style.  If only the good things were contagious, wouldn't life be cooler?  Since brass was forgotten and left in absence for a long time, it has staged a comeback for over a year now.  It’s been like gold, in the sense that everybody wants a piece of it.  And who wouldn't?  The gorgeous metal seems to pretty up everything it touches.  Enjoy!

Small Modern Kitchens

Not many people appreciate modern and clean lines in Interior Design.  But I think it's worth a second look to try to understand that when dealing with tiny and narrow spaces like these ones "less is more" and I'm not one that uses that term very often because mathematically doesn't make much sense, ha!.  On the other hand, though these kitchens featured here are all small and with clean line cabinetry, they all have something in common that stop them from being boring.  This unique element is the finishing on the cabinets, fixtures and accessories.  These smart designers kept things interesting with finishing such as lacquer, stainless steel, gorgeous marble as back splash, and a lot of brass or gold accents.  Me like it like that!  Enjoy!

An Artist's home in Bavaria

While in Buenos Aires a couple of weeks ago I bought a the November edition of Architectural Digest Spain where they showcase a home of an anonymous artist (yes, some people do so well don't need the publicity) who inherited a home in Bavaria.  The house was built in the 60's and he smartly decided to furnish it with nothing less than gorgeous pieces of furniture from the same period.  Most of the furniture is by Philippe Hiquily.  The result is a perfect setting of a very spare and sophisticated home with an good amount of gold throughout that assures me this owner's work should be amazing.  I took photos with my iPhone to share the beauty of this home with you.  Enjoy!

I want MINTY

If there is one thing I always admire is uniqueness and original taste.  That's why I've been meaning to post about MINTY owned by Nelya at Head over Heels and two other bloggers.  If you haven't visited Minty you're are missing out on a lot!  These beauties pictured here are just a handful of their exotic and glamorous collection.  Love them all!

Kitchen of the week: Top Brass Kitchen

This kitchen is small in size but big in style and originality.  I love the combination of materials and color, the stove and the use of brass throughout.  I also love how the walnut contrast with the white.  Lovely indeed.  Enjoy!

Kitchen of the week: Distressed Wood and Brass

The Kitchen of this week is a no brainer.  It only needs a quick glance to love it; designed by Celerie Kemble, it has a modest-glam meets bare-foot-beach-walk feel.  The distressed wood of the island paired with the brass of the hardware and faucets raise my heart beat a notch.
I'll take off to enjoy a very rainy weekend, from what it seems.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Atmosphere In A Room | Sharing A Soul

Good Morning! I hope you had a wonderful time and that the new year awaits you with all the wonderful things you've been dreaming for.  I spent it as I wanted, surrounded by family and toasting with Moet to a new and fresh start.
I've been collecting images of rooms that for many reasons remind me of other rooms.  Done by different designers these rooms share a similar soul or atmosphere.  Many people think of candle lights and candle scent when they hear the word Atmosphere but it is far more complex than that.  Atmosphere or mood is the final ambience and feeling that is perceived in a room. Such things as room scale, flow, furniture weight (heavy, slick, rustic, refined),  color scheme, lighting and textiles are all elements that help create that specific mood in rooms.
Neutral tones that go from black to beige, lush rug, brass, velvet, mirror, antique fireplace mantel and just the right amount of natural light creates a very glamorous and romantic atmosphere.
Two canopy beds, both with some shimmer (glass, silver leaf), open side tables, and art wall/mirror create modern and airy take on tradition.
Fireplace as a focal point, height mounted curtains, upholstery furniture and a common layout.
These two rooms, above are different in layout but by sharing the same clarity in the rooms and the same color scheme they feel similar.
Global chic and a relaxed down to earth feeling are shared by these two rooms above.
The last two rooms above have a beachy intellectual atmosphere that is also relaxed.

Hammered Brass

Only a few would argue with me that if there were a synonym word for Glam that would be Brass.  I know that finishes in a decor would depend on what environment you are willing to create.  In a farm house you may probably find chrome or brushed chrome instead of brass?  But for environments or atmospheres where a dose of sophistication is required you probably would end up with some brass thrown in.  It's a classic!  Hand hammered brass takes all that up a notch by adding texture and a sense of provenance.  We've seen it vastly used in Moroccan design, which is known for being exotic and sometimes over the top.  Below are a few items that would make anything else around them dance and be merry.  Enjoy!

I'm in the process of sprucing up this blog's "looks".  My goal is to create a clean and undistracted background for the images and posts to stand out.  I'm pleased with it so far but it's actually a work in progress.
