In case you missed it, I posted about The Home Depot Bathroom Beautification Contest here. And great news – I am extending the contest deadline until this Friday, November 1st at 8 am EST. As I mentioned in the contest post, I am doing a little update of my own on the vanity side only of the bathroom. (The other side has the drop in tub which I rarely use and an enclosed shower. Down the road as the budget allows, I may replace the tub with a freestanding one and open up the shower. But since I rarely use the tub, that seems like money down the drain, so to speak.)
So I am upgrading the faucets and prettying up the existing vanity with a new paint colour and new hardware. Simple updates that will make a world of difference to my homely builder bathroom.
There are many things to consider when purchasing a faucet for your bathroom. The Home Depot has a buying guide which explains things like what an 8” spread refers to - it’s the distance between the center of the outer holes (my preference.)
And what finish? So many options. I am partial to chrome finishes in bathrooms. I think they add a bit of sparkle and I find they are easy to keep clean. I do love a matte black finish and an aged brass finish as well – oh, and Delta has a Champagne Bronze finish which is gorgeous.

I have loved the Kohler Pinstripe faucet with cross handles for awhile and was happy to see it on The Home Depot’s site. Isn’t she lovely?
If you prefer something a little more traditional looking and a little less expensive, then Delta’s Victorian 8” Widespread is a good bet. I am installing something similar in my bathroom. I love the curved spout.
The Delta Vero Single Handle faucet is modern and sleek and would work well in a kid’s bath.
I’m lucky enough to be able to keep my vanity as it is in great shape and only 8 years old. If your vanity is old and dingy, then updating the faucets won’t do a thing – you will need to replace your vanity. The Home Depot has a range of vanities in different widths, materials and styles and if you are overwhelmed by choices, they have a buying guide here.
