Monday Meandering: Colour, Fashion, Rugs

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

I attended two fashion related events last week and wanted to share.

1) At a presentation by Crown, we discussed where colour is headed in 2012 and the relationship between colour in fashion and home decor. (It’s no secret that one influences the other!)  The Pantone Fashion Colour Report Spring 2012 was revealed last month and features the top 10 colors for next Spring.

For the most part the colours are happy and bright. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute says “Consumers look to spring for renewed energy, optimism and the promise of a brighter day.  They have learned how color can help them alter a mood, while providing the vitality and enthusiasm that enables them to experiment with new looks and color combinations.”

A few weeks ago, my blogger friend Cecilia blogged about the Spring 2012 colours and we were trying to guess what the Pantone colour of the year would be for 2012.  We’re thinking it’s either Tangerine Tango or Solar Power.  (I guess a hint would be it’s first on the women’s report. :) )  It follows  2011’s colour of the year, Honeysuckle – also bright and optimistic and will be announced by the end of the year

2) This past week was LG Fashion Week in Toronto.  I was lucky to be invited by my friend Christine to the Korhani rug fashion show.  Yes, you read that correctly.  It’s a fashion show where the models are sporting rugs crafted into jackets, skirts, pants etc.  Brilliant!  I have never attended a “real” fashion show before and it was fast-paced, inspirational and also provided some great people watching!   (Although I’m not up on who’s who in the fashion world, we did spy a few decor personalities.)   The majority of the show was an interpretation of Alice in Wonderland – creative and fun!

Hard to believe that those are all beautiful rugs.  Now, let’s play “Where’s the magazine personality?”  H&H’s Lynda Reeves and Cameron McNeil are easy to spot (as I zoomed in) – hope that’s not too stalkerish!  Style at Home editor Erin McLaughlin is a little more difficult to see (she’s in the photo on the left above).

You can see better quality photos like the one above here.  Next year, I would love to attend other shows like the Joe Fresh or Pink Tartan ones.

Hope you have a wonderful week!  I’ll update this post later with the winner of the Nudge Home giveaway!
